Interview: Kai Parham

Parham is one of the top linebacker prospects in not only the state of Virginia, but also the entire country. He's considering the Hurricanes and explains why in this interview.

Everyone talks about Ahmad Brooks being the premier defensive prospect in the state of Virginia. He probably is, not far behind is Virginia Beach (Va) Princess Anne LB/LE Kai (pronounced Kigh) Parham.

Parham finished his junior season with close to 100 tackles and 14 quarterback sacks. At the Virginia Tech summer camp, he measured in at 6-foot-3 and 236 pounds, and ran a 4.65/40. He also recorded a 4.66 timing at the NIKE Camp at Penn State.

Your current core GPA: 3.3

Your current test score: 1080 on the SAT.

Which schools called in May: I got a bunch of calls. Virginia Tech, Virginia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee, pretty much everyone.

Which schools have sent you scholarship offers in writing: In writing, I got one from Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Florida, Rutgers, Michigan State, and some other ones.

If signing day were tomorrow, what's it looking like: My top five is Virginia, Florida, Florida State, Stanford, and Virginia Tech. Those are probably the schools I will visit.

What's Miami talking about and where do they stand: Miami's a good school and a good team and everything. They're in for a big season and I'm still considering them (editor's note: Coach Hargreaves is recruiting Parham).

If Parham ends up playing college football inside the state of Florida, he's a defensive end and not a linebacker. The same goes for Virginia Tech, probably. He has some offers, but none from the big time programs such as Miami or Florida State. He also didn't sound overly interested in the Hurricanes, and I think he's a kid that has staying-in-state written all over him. But we'll see what happens as the season progresses.
