Canes jump into mix for top OL

The Hurricanes are one of the latest schools to offer an offensive line prospect from central Florida. Read on to learn more about him and what Miami's chances are.

Jalen Merrick from New Smyrna Beach says the Hurricanes offered him last week.

He goes 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds. He plays right tackle mostly in high school but probably projects as a guard at the college level.

Nike numbers from the spring:
5.63/40
5.40/shuttle
31-inch vert

He actually grew up playing basketball. He just started playing football as a junior and really started to turn into a premier player, especially late in the season. He's massive, has plus athleticism for someone his size, is well coached, carries a 3.8 GPA, and seems to have a real bright future.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Oklahoma are some of his other recent offers so he's already being recruited nationally like a 4-star prospect.

Partially because he didn't grow up playing football, he doesn't have ties to any one school. He's very wide open and plans to check out some schools this summer. Especially because of the stiff competition, Miami will have to get him on campus this summer to be in the mix heading into the fall.
