Canes looking into Juco ranks for LB

The Hurricanes recently offered a linebacker from the Junior College ranks, which indicates their interest in signing one this year. Read on to learn more about this prospect and what Miami's chances are.

Claude George says the Hurricanes offered him a few days ago.

At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, he's a linebacker prospect from Hutchinson JC in Kansas.

In the spring of 2012, George ran a 4.67/40 and jumped 31 inches on the vert. That's back when he weighed 201 pounds.

George is originally from Louisiana and signed with Memphis as part of their Class of 2013. He was unable to get the necessary test score to enroll, however, so he went the Juco route. He says he's on track to graduate in December with three years to play two.

He finished his freshman season in 2013 with 48 tackles, 12 for loss, six sacks, and one interception.

George has shown the versatility to play both inside and outside. He could be an edge rusher in a 4-3 or a strongside 'backer in a 3-4.

He has other BCS offers from schools like Iowa State, Washington, Colorado, Cincinnati, Kansas, and USF. He told Scout recently that his top three are Miami, Iowa State, and Washington.

He's never been on campus so that will be Miami's challenge this summer. Since Juco prospects can take official visits during the summer, don't be surprised if he takes one here before the season starts.

Whether or not he ends up here remain to be seen but it's clear with this offer that Miami is willing to dip into the Juco ranks for a linebacker in its 2015 class.
