Davante Davis says the Hurricanes offered him over the weekend.
At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he's a big cornerback prospect who could also end up playing free safety. He ran a 4.50/40 and jumped 34 inches at a Nike event a couple months back so he brings top notch speed and athleticism to the table.
Despite missing three games at Homestead High last season due to an ankle injury, he finished the year with 35 tackles and four interceptions. He transferred to Booker T. Washington High following the season.
Schools like Cincinnati and FAU offered him early on and then he committed to Syracuse in early May, citing his strong relationship with former UM assistant coach George McDonald as a big reason why.
His recruiting status has exploded in recent weeks since college coaches have been able to watch spring practice. Schools like Wisconsin, Ohio State, South Carolina, Georgia, and now Miami have offered him in recent weeks. He's being recruited like a four-star prospect now.
While he remains committed to Syracuse, don't expect that to last. Miami has done well recruiting Booker T in recent years. Having Ice Harris on staff now might not help as much as some think since Davis was a winter transfer.
Look for the Canes to make Davis a priority in the coming weeks and months. National Signing Day is still a long ways off so Miami will have plenty of time to flip him.
