UM Recruiting Scoop: 7/17

The Hurricanes have been on a recruiting roll lately. Read on for an update on a couple current commitments who are now looking around as well as the latest on some key remaining targets.

* Jaason Lewis is a four-star prospect from the state of Virginia, and he has Miami in his final five. Lewis has an older brother who ran track briefly at UM and he had a successful visit here earlier this year. The one-time UCLA commit also lists Oregon, Ole Miss, Arizona State, and LSU as his finalists. He plans to commit in late October so look for the Canes to try getting him on campus for an official visit before then. Scout Profile for Lewis

* Recent WR commit Therrell Gosier is still being recruited by some schools and he told Scout a few days ago that he plans to take some official visits this fall. One visit he plans on taking sure is to Nebraska. At 6-foot-5, Gosier's been busy playing AAU basketball this summer. While he may take some other trips. his commitment to Miami remains firm. * Dexter Williams is now one of four running back commitments for the Hurricanes. The four-star from Orlando committed to the Canes on the same day as their spring game back in April. He is still being heavily recruited by several other schools and told Scout earlier this week that he plans on visiting Michigan and USC for sure, in addition to the Canes. Last week he told Scout that his commitment is 80-percent right now. While it doesn't seem to be in danger of changing anytime soon, Williams is probably the least likely of the four RB commits to ultimately sign with the Hurricanes. Scout Profile for Williams

* Marquavius Lewis is a five-star defensive end prospect from the Junior College ranks, and he took an official visit to Miami a few weeks ago. A teammate of current UM commit Claude George, Lewis told Scout on Wednesday that South Carolina is his top choice as of right now. That doesn't bode well for the Canes since he's originally from there and named them as a leader before even taking an official visit there. While he'll likely end up in South Carolina a changing of his mind doesn't seem terribly realistic for the Canes at this point. Scout Profile for Lewis
