Golden talks QB starter & more

Read on to see what Al Golden was saying following Sunday's practice about the quarterback situation and more.

On where they’re at with preparation:
It’s kinda game week. These next three days we really have to improve. We had a break there and I knew what today was going to be.

On having yesterday off:
When they have time off, their legs get heavy. Tomorrow is the day you’ll see the biggest difference. I expect them to be really fresh.

On the starting QB:
Brad Kaaya will be the starter. It was close. Jake understands what he needs to do in terms of getting ready. Brad knows the competition will continue.

On where the competition goes from here:
We have a long ways to go in terms of the season. There is competition at every position. It was a tight battle, and not one that we could have foresaw back in June. They had a great battle. Kevin Olsen really improved.

On when the decision was made:
We made the decision this morning. He’s coming along great. We’re putting him in a tough environment every day in terms of music and things like that. He should improve by leaps and bounds these next few days.

On Jake’s reaction:
They’re both very positive guys. It’s an ongoing thing, and they both know that. Brad is the starter going into the opener and Jake knows he has to support that and be ready to go.

On Ryan Williams:
As I said all along, Ryan has a medical issue right now. When it’s no longer an issue, then we’ll look at it in every angle in terms of what’s best for our football team. Once he’s back, we will re-evaluate the situation.

On what they saw from Kaaya:
We saw how much he was devoted, how much he learned. It’s translated. We put him under the gun. His completion percentage has been good. He can articulate our offense. He’s not a freshman quarterback. He’s our quarterback.
