Atkins Names Leader

At 6-5 and 245, Atkins was the Defensive MVP of the Miami summer camp, then was recently named the MVP of another one. Arguably the state's best defensive end prospect, Atkins has narrowed his list down to five. Where does Miami stand? He talks about all that in this interview.

At 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Baraka Atkins emerged in a huge way at the University of Miami summer camp, where he earned Defensive MVP honors. At that point, I had Atkins pegged as perhaps the state's top defensive end prospect.

Them, he went to the University of South Florida camp where he earned similar honors as the top defensive player at that camp. Then he went to a linemen-only camp in Sarasota a few weeks ago and was the MVP of it. Simply put, this kid's having an awesome summer.

A full academic qualifier, Atkins now has 20 written offers.

"I have offers from Eastern Michigan, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Michigan State, Kentucky, Kansas, Auburn, South Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, Florida Atlantic, UConn, Memphis, Miami, Indiana, Rutgers, Louisville, and Iowa."

Atkins says he's decided on which five schools he wants to visit, but has not set any dates yet.

"I plan on visiting Miami, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Florida, and Georgia Tech," he said. "Miami is still my favorite. I'm not exactly sure when I'll make my decision. It might be during my visits or after them, I'm not sure. Whenever it feels right."
