Heaps reacts to losing QB battle

Read on to see what senior quarterback Jake Heaps was saying following Monday's practice about losing the starting quarterback competition to freshman Brad Kaaya.

On losing the competition:
It’s not the outcome I wanted but at the end of the day that’s what the coaches felt was best. You have to live with it, accept your role, and be ready when your time comes.

On what he thinks made the difference:
I don’t know. We both competed hard. I thought things went well, felt good about things I did. Brad did well, too. I think the coaches felt he had the better camp and that’s where we have to go from here.

On if his relationship with Kaaya has changed:
Not at all. Roles are defined by the coaches. It doesn’t change anything with our relationship. I have to support him and help him out in anyway I can.

On his elbow:
It’s good. It’s something I needed some time to recover from. It’s OK and I’m ready to go. I don’t think one day can make or break you but I really wanted to be out there. Being there would’ve been better than not but I don’t think it was a deciding factor.

On the conversation he had with the coaches:
I wont get into the details of the conversation but my role is what it is now. I’ll keep my head up, keep working hard, and be there when my team needs me.
