Scouting Brendan Loftus

Here are some highlights of Miami bound offensive tackle Brendan Loftus.

Brendan Loftus is a three-star offensive line prospect from Tallahassee Godby. Loftus plays left tackle and they travelled south to play Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy on Saturday. Below are some highlights of Loftus in action against IMG.

This is a big kid at 6-foot-6, 285-pounds. He’s actually quite long with plenty of room to bulk up his frame.

At this point I think he’s best asset is his size. Loftus moves pretty well in both pass pro and run blocking. He has a tendency to play on the high side but it’s tough for guys his size. Coming off the ball and playing low is something he will need to always work on. When he plays high he not only loses leverage but Loftus has the tendency to get off-balance. When that happens he reaches.

This is a young man that has some good, physical traits. I would like to see him more of a mauler. Loftus also needs to develop his hands, strength and flexibility a little better.

Does he posses the athleticism to play tackle for the Hurricanes? I think so but I see him as a right tackle not a left. He may even be asked to play inside at guard.
