Al Golden: Louisville Post-Game

Read on to see what head coach Al Golden was saying following his team's loss to Louisville Monday night.

On Brad Kaaya’s first start:
That was a tough environment for him to open up his career but we didn’t do a good enough job of protecting him. He made some throws he’d want back. I think he’ll make a lot of progress over the next 4-5 days. We have to do a better job of protecting him.

On the protection issues:
We go right to the offensive line but there’s more to it. There are a multitude of reasons why we aren’t protecting. As I told the team, there were too many errors and it starts with me. Everyone has to look in the mirror. We will watch the film.

On Louisville stacking the box:
We knew it was coming. They were going to after Brad with that and we were certain to find some cracks in there but we didn’t finish enough. The defense got us the ball twice inside the 10 and we didn’t convert and we had an illegal man downfield when we connected inside the five. Its tough to overcome those things.

On what he tells the team;
There are no excuses. They played better than we did. We made errors that we hadn’t seen like the illegal man downfield. On Brads lateral throw, he just rushed the throw and threw it backwards. He saw it and just made an error on the throw.

On third down issues going back to the bowl game:
It’s a totally different team now. We have to focus on what we’re doing now. I thought they did an excellent job of stopping the run early in the game and put us in some third and longs. We have a lot of things that need fixed. We will start on them tonight on the way back and get with the guys on Wednesday.

On Denzel Perryman’s status:
It was a cramp. He should be OK.
