Garrett Talks About Miami

The linebacker prospect is one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the state of Illinois. He says he's been a fan of the Canes since Michael Irvin played here. Garrett talks very indepthly about the Hurricanes and the entire recruiting process in this indepth interview.

I had never heard of Garrett until this past week when there was a report that he had de-committed from Illinois and was now strongly considering the Hurricanes. Without having any previous info, I gave him a call to get the real scoop.

Garrett, who stands 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds, says he was timed at 4.59 in the 40 last week during two a days. In the season opener last Friday, Garrett had 7 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery while playing strongside linebacker.

Your current core GPA: 3.4

Your current test score: I got a 21 on the ACT.

Which schools called in May: Illinois, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, and Iowa.

Which schools have sent you scholarship offers in the mail: Illinois, Notre Dame, and Boston College. West Virginia told me they have one, but they haven't sent anything in writing yet.

Who are your favorite teams right now: Illinois, Notre Dame, and Miami are my top three. I'm waiting to see what Miami's going to do.

Talk about Miami: I love the Canes. I love them, and I think it's amazing that they can lose their head coach in January and come back and be right in contention for the national championship again. I've always loved the Canes since Michael Irvin was there. I'd love to play for Miami, but right now, I'm not sure how interested they are in me because I have never talked to them and I dont get much stuff from them in the mail. But if they started recruiting me, they'd definitely be one of my favorites.

Do you have any visits scheduled: I'll visit Illinois and Notre Dame for sure. If Miami starts recruiting me, I'd visit there too, but we'll have to see what happens with them.

Personally, it sounds like a kid from the Midwest who is being heavily recruited in that part of the country and wants to come to Miami, but isn't really being recruited by the Canes. AGain, I posted this as a follow up to a report that indicated Miami was a favorite of Garrett at this time.
