UM Lands Third Commitment

One of the nation's top prospects, regardless of position, committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday over a host of others. "They're the Canes," he said. "That's where I always wanted to play, and now I'm getting that chance."

Five years ago the Hurricanes went into New Orleans and landed one of the nation's elite wide receiver prospects in Reggie Wayne, who left Miami as the school's all-time receptions leader. Wayne became a first round draft pick of the Indianpolis Colts this past April.

The Hurricanes returned to New Orleans (St. Augustine H.S.) this year and landed a huge recruiting coup on Sunday - wide receiver Akieem Jolla (pronounced Ah-keem Jula).

"I've committed to Miami," Jolla said moments ago. "They offered me and that's where I am going."

Jolla went to camps at Clemson, Georgia Tech, and the LSU NIKE Camp this summer. Currently, he's 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, and he ran a 4.38/40 at both Georgia Tech and LSU.

"They're the Canes," Jolla said. "That's where I always wanted to play, and now I'm getting that chance."

Jolla, who is fully qualified inside the classroom (2.7 GPA/17 ACT), picked the Hurricanes over a host of others who offered scholarships. "I picked Miami over Michigan, Georgia Tech, LSU, and Florida," he said.

"I'm calling CJ tonight to make it official," Jolla said.

The talented receiver was asked about becoming the next Reggie Wayne. "No way. I'm going to be the next Akieem Jolla."

In his season opener on Saturday night, Jolla had two receptions for 47 yards, both receptions going for touchdowns.
