Perryman defends Mark D'Onofrio

Read on to see what senior linebacker Denzel Perryman is saying about the team's defensive struggles, why he defends defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, and more.

On the defensive struggles vs Nebraska:
We had a lot of guys out of their gaps including myself. We missed tackles and it’s something we need to clean up.

On Coach D’s scheme:
Coach D does a great job setting up the scheme for players and we execute it well during the week during practice. Come game time guys get in the moment and need to focus on what they’re doing.

On the atmosphere there:
Big crowd, prime time game, I guess guys just wanted to make plays.

On Duke from last year:
I remember losing. That’s all I remember from it. It was a great game the whole time but that’s all I remember. They’re in our coastal so it’s the start of a new season for us.

On losing a game that could have gotten them into the ACC Title game:
We found that out during halftime. Not being able to win was frustrated. We came out and had a lot of mistakes in the second half that cost us.

On how they can improve:
We just have to focus on our fundamentals, guys staying in their gaps. It all comes down to guys doing their jobs.
