Duke responds to defensive critics

Read on to see what running back Duke Johnson is saying about the defense, his preparation for Duke, the frustration of not being able to play in last year's game, and much more.

On Duke's defense:
They’re the same, a disciplined defense. Their guys fly to the ball and try making the play. It’s the same defense from last year. They trust each other.

On being more confident now that he’s getting involved in the passing game:
I was confident from the first game but now that I’m getting it in the passing game, it makes the defense gameplan more.

On last year’s Duke game:
I think that was the most frustrated thing about it. We had a chance to play in an ACC Championship game. We came out in the first half ready but then came out in the second half and we were flat and they wanted it more.

On how they can respond:
We understand what happened last year and how we have to come out from the first to the last quarter and come out striking and play a good game.

On the offense having some long drives:
It helps a lot to give the defense a breather. At the same time it shows us what we are capable of doing when everyone executes their role.

On why the defense is struggling:
I have no idea. I’m an offensive guy and only control what I can control. There is nothing I can say. Louisville, the offense wasn’t clicking but the defense was. I have no idea why the defense is struggling.
