Updates on Goudis, Thomas, No. 3 RB & more

Read on for Monday updates on the health status of Matt Goudis and Chad Thomas, Miami's third running back situation, and why Duke Johnson was a bit limited at practice today.

Al Golden spoke about a number of topics surrounding the team today.

On Chad Thomas:
No, he’s back. He will not (redshirt). Chad played three plays. I didn’t realize he played three. He feels a lot better. He’s ready to go this week.

On Matt Goudis:
He did. I don’t know where it’s at yet. Today was a chance for him to get loose. We’ll know more tomorrow for sure.

On the kicking situation:
Badgley struck the ball really well the other night. He has to continue improving on his kickoffs. He hasn’t reached his potential so I need to do a better job coaching that. We need to get it deeper on kickoffs.

On Duke Johnson’s ankle:
It’s just precautionary. He’ll be fine.

On the defensive performance:
It was better for sure. We have a long way to go. We executed, communicated well. Our explosive plays were down. Our mentals were down. It was everyone executing, trusting their training, and being a band of brothers. We have to protect it better on offense and convert more third downs. Those things are hurting our defense right now.

On the number three tailback spot:
Gus had a good game against Arkansas State. He put the ball on the ground the other day which was disappointing but we’ll support him. He has to bounce back. It’s all fluid. Joe, Gus, and Gray are all battling for reps. Gus is doing a lot on special teams right now and that’s helping us out a ton. He’s disappointed in the fumble. He has to grow from that.
