Coach D: We are moving in the right direction

Read on to see what Miami defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio was saying after Sunday's practice.

On the Cincinnati game:
With three minutes left in the third quarter when we took our starters out we’d given up less than four yards a play and 13 points. We had a chance for six or seven interceptions so we were in the right position.

On playing so many guys late in that game:
It was a chance to give our starters a rest. I thought the second group would be able to go in and execute better but it was a good teaching opportunity for the younger guys.

On Va Tech’s offensive performance against Pittsburgh:
You have to throw that one out. They were without three running backs and I know they’ll have guys back and be ready for us. They’re a talented team with a good line. They have a quarterback who has won some games and they’ll be ready.

On the young D-Linemen:
We are moving in the right direction. Trent Harris is playing a lot. Chad Thomas has played a lot. Moten, Jenkins, Calvin, Mike Wyche, we went out and got all those guys and they’re improving. That’s six guys who are first year players giving us snaps and depth.
