Less than a week after wide receiver Akieem Jolla announced for the Hurricanes, it appears Miami Central standout wide receiver is ready to announce for the Hurricanes as well.
"I'm about 80-percent committed to Miami," Darnell Jenkins said. "Miami has always been where I wanted to go, and I'll probably announce it this weekend."
Jenkins, who was 5-11 and 178 (currently 180) at the NIKE Camp, is one of the state's premier prospects. He's listed as the No. 12 overall player in the state on my Super 50 and the No. 3 wide receiver prospect.
Jenkins is a difference maker on the field. He's such a great athlete, Jenkins has played all over the field - quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback, and safety. "Miami is recruiting me as a wide receiver," Jenkins said.
In the Kickoff Classic against Southridge last Friday, Jenkins caught five passes for 65 yards.
"I've pretty much been committed to Miami as you know, but then Florida State had a few guys get injured in the last few weeks, so the possibility is there for me to go in there and play right away. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to Miami. You can call me back this weekend and I'll probably make it official."
Jenkins also offered some insight on fellow wide receiver prospect Devin Aromashodu.
"Devin and I went to Springs together our freshmen year," he said. "We're real good friends and he's talking a lot about Miami, too."
If he sticks to his plan, Jenkins will soon become UM's fourth commitment, joining offensive lineman Emmitt Tatum, defensive end Antonio Reynolds, and Jolla.
