Thomas: Bowl is biggest game of my life

Read on to see what freshman defensive end Chad Thomas is saying as the team continues its bowl preparation.

On the first few practices:
It went good for the defense. Guys are stepping up. Chick didn’t go the first two practices so I got a lot of reps. Young guys are getting in more and were putting it all together.

On being more vocal out there now:
When I first came I wasn’t really talking to players. Now I can talk. I can say things to other guys. My leadership is coming out more now. I feel like I can say more.

On how big this game is:
It’s the biggest game of my life. Playing against a good team from the SEC. We’re showing them we’re a small private school in the ACC so it’s a good opportunity for us and will give us some momentum.

On his knowledge of Shreveport:
I went with my uncle once because I have cousins from there but I don’t know a whole lot about it.

On the break after the Pitt game:
I missed being out here. Our first day back on the field, we were excited to be back. The break was still putting a lot of time in the weight room so getting back on the field felt easy. You didn’t feel tired or winded.

On his weight:
I left the season at 257. I dropped to 255. I’m trying to get to 265 for next year.

On winning this for the seniors:
It’s important to show them that whatever they do in life they still represent the U. We can step up to the challenges.

On school:
Some people are done with finals. My last one is Tuesday. All my music classes start in the spring. I’m just putting in the work, doing a lot of studying.

On the bowl game feeling different than the last few games:
I can’t say it feels different because I’m the type of person who just wants to play football. During the season on Monday we have to get ready for the next team. It’s a big game but it’s also just another game.
