Tuesday Q&A with Al Golden

Read on to see what coach Al Golden is saying about Chad Thomas, Hunter Knighton, Ryan Williams, and more.

On Chad Thomas replacing Anthony Chickillo next season:
I think he’s obviously competing with (Ufomba) Kamalu there as well. Chad has to continue to grow and learn. He’s blessed with leadership qualities and he’s a hard worker. He just has to keep pushing. The more reps he gets and the more he plays the better he’ll transition into that role.

On Chad’s development:
He’s a freshman so he has a long way to go. He’s willing, he works hard, he’s not afraid to get pushed to get better every day. We have a long way to go. He’s just finishing up his first year.

On Hunter Knighton being back around the team:
Oh yeah. He’s doing a great job. His goal is to get back in the spring. He’s doing modified workouts and is making great progress. He’s doing a great job. He’s a tremendous kid. He’s set some goals now and then we’ll go from there.

On Joe Brown’s injury today:
I think he rolled an ankle but I’ll find out. I’m not sure how significant it is.

On Ryan Williams this season:
I think it’s been tough on him. It’s been difficult. I remember back in April I was at my son’s little league game and I got the call. He worked very hard but got far behind. He’s a class act, a hard worker, and we appreciate all he’s given to us.

On the future for Williams:
He’s in one of the all-star games now so he’ll have an opportunity there. He has a great future. He might be too smart to choose his profession. He’s very bright.

On Williams getting a 6th year:
He’s not. I explained it during the season. One was a transfer and you need two medical ending redshirts.
