Canes Recruiting Spotlight: OL commit

The Hurricanes landed an early commitment from one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Pennsylvania. Read on to learn all about him as a prospect and to watch a video trailer of him.

The Player: Hayden Mahoney is an offensive lineman from Malvern Prep High in Malvern, Pa.

On the field: Mahoney plays right tackle at the prep level. He put his name on the recruiting map with a strong junior season in 2014. Over the summer he competed on the U-19 U.S. National Football Team that played games in other countries. He plays sparingly on the defensive line but he's been a fixture at right tackle for a 7-4 team. He also plays for his high school basketball team. He's considered a good athlete for someone his size and does a nice job of getting to the second level and making blocks down the field. He has enough athleticism to play right tackle in college but could end up adding weight and growing into a guard position down the road.

As a Recruit: At 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, Mahoney landed March offers from Boston College and Northwestern before taking an unofficial visit to Miami late in the month. He landed an offer from the Hurricanes during that visit and committed to Miami a few days later. He has not added any other FBS offers since then and hasn't taken any other visits. He came down here over the summer and again for the Florida State game. Recruited by Art Kehoe, Mahoney only officially visited Miami.

Bottom Line: Mahoney was one of Miami's first offensive line commitments this year and has been actively recruited by the Canes ever since. He's one of six commitments along the offensive front and was getting recruited like a 3-star prospect. Mahoney has been rock solid with his commitment all year.
