Canes lose big commitment

The Hurricanes lost a major commitment on Thursday night. Read on for the details.

Dwayne Lawson committed to the Hurricanes way back in the spring but he's no longer in the fold for Miami.

"I want to thank all the coaches at the University of Miami for the opportunity but I've chosen to go another route in this recruitment," Lawson said.

At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, the Tampa Hillsborough standout initially picked Miami over offers from schools like Florida, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Tennessee.

Lawson took an official visit to Virginia Tech last month and has been in close contact with the coaches at USF. The Bulls are believed to be the new leader here.

The talented quarterback prospect is fresh off an outstanding senior season. He threw for 2,444 yards and 21 touchdowns and also ran for 867 and 17 scores.

Miami now has no quarterback commitments in the 2015 class and no outstanding offers out. Expect that to change in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned as we'll have full analysis of this news posted here on Friday.
