Wyche breaks down the spring

Read on to see everything senior defensive tackle Mike Wyche is saying about spring as the team prepares for its second scrimmage.

On where in the rotation he’s been lately:
Mostly the ones. I’m doing good. I know my plays and I’m playing a lot faster.

On the improvements he’s made:
I lost a lot of weight. I’m under 325 now. That was my goal weight.

On how he feels compared to when he first arrived:
I feel way better. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in and now I just have to keep going.

On being fully recovered from an injury last year:
I’m up to speed now. I just have to take it one practice at a time and keep doing what the coaches ask of me.

On getting Calvin Heurtelou back:
Whatever coach has planned for us, we’ll be ready.

On goals for the upcoming scrimmage:
Same as the first scrimmage – do my job and the rest will take care of itself.

On the heated battles between the OL and DL:
We go at it every day. We still love each other. We’re just out here battling but it’s all love.

On Coach Melvin:
He’s not teaching us anything new. We’re just taking it one practice at a time, and we’re buying in. They’re both great coaches with a lot to offer us. We respect both of them.

On the defensive improvements:
I think we’ll do a lot better this year. Everyone is working hard and making progress.
