Canes 1st FBS school to offer SC DT

The Hurricanes became the first FBS offer for a talented defensive tackle prospect from the state of South Carolina. Read on to learn more about him and what Miami's chances are.

Jabari Ellis says he received his first FBS offer earlier this week when the Hurricanes came through.

"Miami said that I'm everything that they are looking for in a player, a true Hurricane," Ellis told Scout's Kerry Fair. He asked how many offers that I already have and I said one from South Carolina State. He said are you sure. He said now you have two congratulations!"

Ellis, 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, played mostly defensive end at Lake Marion High last season but projects as a defensive tackle at the college level.

South Carolina State was his first college offer recently and he's also been in contact with schools like South Carolina and NC State. He took an unofficial visit to Georgia last weekend and is considering taking a visit to Miami this coming weekend.

Ellis doesn't have any other FBS offers right now so it's tough to tell what Miami's competition will be like in the end but it's a bit surprising they went in and offered him before any of the state schools up there. That could pay off down the road if he does start collecting major offers locally.

Ellis has ideal size and seems like a quality athlete for a big man. He's active in opposing backfields and looks like the type of player who will get some national attention during the May evaluation period coming up.
