Canes Signee Spotlight: 4 star RB

The Hurricanes signed one of the top running back prospects in the state of Florida. Read on to learn more about him as a player and to watch a movie trailer about him.

The Player: Mark Walton is a running back from Booker T. Washington High in Miami, and he signed with the Hurricanes a couple months ago.

As a Prospect: At 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, Walton is a naturally gifted running back. He has very good running instincts and is able to see the smallest of holes and burst through them. He runs as if he has eyes all around his head. He is very patient, has excellent vision, and does a nice job of making people miss in the open field. He runs with balance, forward lean, and does a nice job of finishing off his runs. He's also a very skilled pass-catcher coming out of the backfield. Walton plays for one of the premier prep programs in the entire state and is used to playing in big games on a weekly basis. The one major knock on him as a prospect is that he lacks the ability to run away from people.

On The Field: Walton had a tremendous prep career for BTW. He was expected to be just a junior on the field this season but then became part of Miami's 2015 recruiting class instead. He helped lead his high school team to a state championship by running for over 1,400 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also had 21 receptions for 191 yards and a pair of scores. He scored five times in the state title game alone.

As a Recruit: Walton landed numerous major scholarship offers in the spring including from schools like Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He was recruited like a four-star prospect. He took visits to West Virginia and Georgia in addition to Miami.

Bottom Line: Walton was one of the nation's most heavily recruited running backs in last year's class. He doesn't have the breakaway speed but he's a proven runner between the tackles and is actually quite similar as a runner and in terms of the overall package to current UM freshman Joseph Yearby. Walton has a tremendous future at the college level.
