Canes make cut for 4-star TE

One of the nation's most heavily recruited tight end prospects in the 2016 class has narrowed down his list some, and Miami made the cut. Read on for more.

According to Scout.com's Brian Dohn, Naseir Upshur cut his list down to 13 schools on Tuesday. They were Alabama, Arizona State, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Temple, USC, and Wisconsin.

At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, Upshur has scholarship offers from all those schools and is among the nation's premier prospects at his position.

Miami offered him during his junior season last fall, and hosted him for a Junior Day event back in February. The Canes are one of only a few schools on that list that he's already taken visits to. He's been to Rutgers several times, which is why some believe they have the early edge.

The Philadelphia native is at the top of Miami's wish list at the tight end position and it's encouraging - although not surprising - they made his first cut. He plans on making another cut this summer and there's a good chance Miami will be on that one too.

Despite having one of the biggest 2016 recruiting classes in the entire country right now, Miami does not have a tight end committed yet.
