Canes offer in-state safety prospect

The Canes offered one of the most talented 2017 safety prospects in North Florida today. Read on to learn about him and what Miami's chances are.

Lyn Strange was offered by Miami today. "I'm blessed to say I just received my first offer from the university of Miami," he said this afternoon.

Strange is a 2017 safety prospect at North Florida Christian High in Tallahassee. He played free safety for a team that finished the 2014 season with a 7-5 record. He finished the 12-game season with 58 total tackles and three interceptions. While he also plays on offense at times, he didn't have any catches during the 2014 season.

At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Strange has the necessary size you look for in a major college free safety prospect. He is coming off a productive sophomore season while playing for one of the premier prep programs in all of North Florida. It was a young defense that he played on, as he was one of six sophomore starters.

Miami was his first scholarship offer today but he's a talented enough kid playing at a school that typically gets heavily recruited so he'll likely pick up several more during the May evaluation period coming up. Being first has to help Miami's chances down the road but it's always going to be tough pulling kids from that area. The Canes were able to successfully land Brendan Loftus from Godby last recruiting class but a lot of that had to do with Loftus not being real heavily recruited by SEC and ACC programs.
