Canes offer 2nd RB of the week

Miami offered one of the top running back prospects in central Florida earlier this week. Now they've offered one of the best in north Florida. Read on to learn about him as a prospect, what it may mean for UM's current running back commitment situation, and more.

"Just received a offer from the university of Miami," said Jamari Peacock, a 2017 running back prospect from Yulee High in Jacksonville, last night.

At 6-feet and 228 pounds, here are Peacock's Nike numbers from earlier this year:
33-inch vertical jump
36-foot power toss

Peacock put his name on the recruiting map with a strong sophomore season. He finished the year with 777 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. He only caught one pass and does not play on defense.

Peacock, the school's most heavily recruited player since Derrick Henry signed with Alabama a few years ago, made a commitment to the University of South Florida as a freshman but that hasn't stopped other schools from chasing after him. Florida State, Florida, and Stanford are some of his other offers. He's one of only a few 2017 running back prospects in the entire state who has offers from each of the Big 3 in Florida.

The Hurricanes already have two running back commitments in the 2017 class in Bentavious Thompson and Robert Burns. Peacock is the second 2017 RB prospect who was offered by Miami this week (Trace Christian) which makes it clear the UM coaches either want three in the 2017 class or they aren't confident in keeping the two current commitments.

Peacock told Scout recently, even before getting the offer this week, that he plans on visiting Miami this summer so we'll learn a lot more about his true interest in the school at that point.
