Connections should help UM with new offer

The Hurricanes have had some nice success recruiting one school in the Jacksonville area in recent years. They're back again, and this time offering one of its top defenders. Read on to learn about him as a prospect and to see what Miami's chances are.

"Blessed To Receive An Offer From University Of Miami," said Nick Roberts, a 2017 defensive back prospect from Oakleaf High in Jacksonville.

At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, Roberts is fresh off an excellent sophomore season. He finished the season with 63 tackles and seven interceptions while playing on a team that went deep into the state playoffs.

Roberts plays at the same school that sent Darrion Owens to UM. He plays on the same defense as current linebacker commit Shaquille Quarterman.

South Carolina, Florida, Cincinnati, and Maryland are some of his other early offers so he's quickly becoming one of the top 2017 defensive back prospects in all of North Florida.

The connection with Owens and Quarterman should help Miami's chances but you never know what will happen since a school like Florida is already heavily involved. Miami has had a tough time recruiting the Jacksonville area over the years but Oakleaf has been favorable to UM in recent years.

Miami already has six commitments in their 2017 class but they're still seeking their first defensive back commitment. Roberts will be a name we'll be watching closely in the coming weeks and months.
