Canes are latest offer for major LB prospect

The Hurricanes already have two linebacker commitments in the 2017 class but that's not stopping them from traveling the country looking for more. Their latest offer went to a national recruit out West. Read on to learn about him as a prospect and to see what Miami's chances are.

"Extremely blessed and thankful to have received an offer from the University of Miami!!," said Santino Marchiol.

At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Marchiol is a 2017 linebacker prospect from Cherry Creek High in Colorado.

He put his name on the recruiting map with a strong sophomore season in which he finished the year with 77 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions. He's a three-down linebacker who can rush the passer and play in coverage.

Those are just some of the reasons why he's being recruited like one of the top prospects in the state of Colorado for the 2017 class. Louisville, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Florida State were some of his offers before Miami came calling on Monday.

Marchiol has never been to Miami, and it's been a long time since the Hurricanes successfully landed a major recruiting prospect from the state of Colorado. This offer shows, however, they're willing to travel the entire country looking for prospects.

The Canes have gotten off to a fast start recruiting linebackers for the 2017 class, as they've landed commitments from two of the top prospects in South Florida -- Tyler Dunning and Waynmon Steed. Marchiol is being recruited even more heavily nationally than those two.
