Local QB gets Miami offer

The Hurricanes made an in-person evaluation of a local quarterback over the weekend and was impressed enough to offer him a scholarship Monday. Read on to learn about him as a prospect and to see what Miami's chances are.

"Blessed to say I have received an offer from the University of Miami!" Jake Allen said on Monday night.

At 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Allen is a 2017 quarterback prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas High. He will be throwing balls to UM commitment Sam Bruce this fall.

Some of his previous offers came from Rutgers, UCF, Cincinnati, and Iowa. Miami's offer gave him 10 heading into the month of June.

Allen played his sophomore season at Cardinal Gibbons High, where he finished the season with 710 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. He split time with another quarterback there in 2014 before transferring to STA for his junior season.

Allen visited Miami for a spring practice back in March and was with his team for the 7on7 Tournament there over the weekend. The Canes seem to be doing well with Allen at this stage of the game.

The Canes have now offered close to 15 quarterbacks in the 2017 class, making it clear they plan on signing two in that class.
