Canes offer UF commit from Dade County

One of the top defensive backs in Miami made a commitment to Florida last month. Now, Miami's added its name to the mix. Read on to learn about him as a prospect and to see what Miami's chances are.

"Blessed to receive an offer from University of Miami," said C.J. McWilliams, a 2016 cornerback prospect from Southwest High in Miami.

At 6-feet and 165 pounds, McWilliams is considered one of the best cornerback prospects in South Florida.

Step It Up Camp numbers from the spring:
4.39/40
4.57/shuttle
9'2/broad jump
33-inch vertical jump
25-foot power toss

As you can see, the first thing that jumps out to you about McWilliams is his ability to run. His straight ahead speed is outstanding. He also has good leaping ability and 6-foot corners aren't too common.

FAU, Louisville, and Cincinnati were his first three offers before Florida offered him last month. He quickly committed to the Gators. The offer from Miami should definitely put them in the game here but offering a local kid after another major in-state program is never a good thing when trying to play catch up. He landed the offer from Miami soon after making an impression at camp this past weekend.

Miami already has three commitments from cornerbacks in the 2016 class -- Deion Jackson, Tyler Byrd, and James Wiggins. All three are still being recruited by other major programs still though so you never know how that will end up. McWilliams is now someone Canes fans should be watching closely.
