Injury updates & more from Tuesday

Some key players have been held out of practice some this week. Read on to see the latest on all of those, why Al Golden is so excited about the hire of new defensive line coach Randy Melvin, and more.

On Randy Melvin vs Jethro Franklin:
It’s hard. I preface it by saying that Jethro did a really good job for us. Randy has done a great job being a technician. Randy has a lot of depth right now. Having RJ and Kendrick pushing coming out,, you hope they can help you but you never know. That changes the whole dynamic. Courtel can play the 3 tech and nose because he’s leaner. Jelani and Kamalu can play 3 and end. The depth and Randy’s approach, being a great father figure, is very powerful.

On the depth at DB:
There is a lot of competition. I don’t know what the final combination is going to be. We have a long way to go before that’s settled there. Jenkins is very mature and looks good. He’s so much lighter than he was. He got heavy when he hurt his back. Jamal is having a great camp. He and Darrion Owens are on a different planet. Dallas is a great leader and we have a good battle at corner too.

On Jamal Carter:
He’s a bulldog. He’s a hard worker, relentless. He has command of the secondary. He’s settling in and executing at a higher level.

On Mike Badgley’s injury:
He will be OK. We’re just taking care of him. He is not a kicker by heart. He’ll jump off cliffs if he could. He just wore himself out. I asked him if he brought his gold clubs. He should be ready by Thursday.

On Quan Muhammad’s injury:
He did more today in terms of the conditioning. He should be ready to go tomorrow.

On the O-Line:
They’re competitive. They were today. Joe Brown’s having a good camp. Danny’s been working at both guard and tackle. Everyone plays other positions and that was handed down by the guys who left. Gauthier is in the mix now too.
