Edwards Another QB Prospect?

A lot of people have been wondering about the status of other UM quarterback prospects since the commitment of Marc Guillon last week. Yesterday, I posted an interview with Matt Gutierrez. Today, here's an interview with Las Gatos standout Trent Edwards, who talks about the Hurricanes.

Edwards had a very busy summer this year. It started with the NIKE Camp at Stanford, then he went to summer camps at Cal, UCLA, Southern Cal, and ended his summer with a strong performance at the Elite 11 Quarterbacks Camp. Officially, Edwards is 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds. His size/speed combination is almost exactly the same as Marc Guillon. Edwards is already a full qualifier with a 3.9 GPA and a 1130 SAT score.

Which schools have called this month: I got a bunch of calls so far. Stanford, UCLA, Michigan, Washington, Washington State, Colorado, Cal, Miami, Oregon, Oregon State, and some others.

Which schools have sent you scholarship offers in writing: Washington State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, and Oregon State. Michigan, Michigan State, and UCLA have offered me verbally.

If signing day were tomorrow, what's it looking like: My top four right now are Stanford, UCLA, Michigan, and Washington.

Have you scheduled any official visits: Not yet, but I hope to travel around the whole country for my visits. Take a couple out west, take a couple to the midwest, and maybe take one or two to the Florida schools.

What Florida schools: I've talked to Coach Werner at Miami. He came out to see me in the spring and has sent me a lot of hand-written mail this summer. He's invited me to some of their games, and he said they'd be calling me in September.

Talk about Miami: It's a great school. They're not really one of my favorites, because I don't know anything about them yet. I like the way they're handling it. If I go there on a visit and like it, that could change everything. I'm just waiting to see what Coach Werner has to say.

It was tough to get a real feel for the interest level Edwards has in coming to Miami. It sounds like he wants to take a visit to Florida, but just doesn't seem overly excited about the Hurricanes just yet. I think if we continue recruiting him and go on to have an outstanding season like everyone thinks we will, his interest level could go way up. But he says Miami hasn't offered yet, so we'll see how this one plays out.
