Al Golden: Post-FSU

Read on to see what coach Al Golden was saying following the team's loss to Florida State.

On the game:
I am very disappointed for our guys. I thought they believed despite going down early. They stayed together. We had opportunities to win. We had them 3rd and 13 and we came with pressure. The kid made a nice throw and kept the drive alive. We just needed one more play. Give them credit. They ran it really well and their quarterback protected it. Their kicking game was excellent. The quarterback did a great job for them.

On Dalvin Cook:
He’s a great back. He’s a great back and we missed too many tackles on him. He got free in the open field but he’s a talented player.

On FSU’s run defense:
They did a great job up front. They’re strong and they play a lot of people. We didn’t want to abandon the run. We wanted to run it enough to complement our passing game. We thought we could attack them vertically down the field. They made a couple more plays than we did.

On the morale of the team:
I love this group and how they compete and how they stay together. I wanted so badly for them to win this game. They worked really hard. We had opportunities and didn’t do it. We played one ACC game so far. We haven’t played a Coastal game yet. We have to fix some things but they’ll come back.

On FSU’s offensive success early:
We have to give them credit. They gave us looks we hadn’t seen. They gave us different groupings we hadn’t seen. The whole game plan was to contain Cook and we let him out way too many times and he made us pay on the second level.

On the O-Line performance:
I thought they battled hard. We just had one sack in 50 attempts. They fought hard against a good front that brought a lot of pressure. We were better on third down and it could be any point in the game. We fumbled the snap on the two yard line that ended up being a big play.
