A day after Zach McCloud re-committed to Miami, three-star tight end Evan Hinson (Deltona HS) de-committed from the Hurricanes. A lot of people believe that had more to do with Miami's lack of interest in him than the other way around.
Today, news broke of another tight end commitment backing off his commitment.
"Tre McKitty, a four-star tight end and 2017 prospect out of the Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, tells me he has de-committed from the University of Miami," Scout.com's Corey Bender reported. "He's a big athlete, but very raw with a lot of work to do. He played in every game this year, but had just one catch. Drops have been an issue, but I expect him to overcome that. Comes from a great family and has a good work ethic."
McKitty was being recruited as one of the top 2017 tight end prospects in the entire South. The other in-state schools seem to be seriously in the mix now.
"I'm real close with his family and their heart is still heavy with the U, but he's had one foot out the door for quite sometime," Bender said. "In-state foes Florida and Florida State, especially Florida, are ones to keep an eye on moving forward. Miami is still in the picture as well."
Interestingly, a teammate of McKitty's -- five-star Isaac Nauta -- took an unofficial visit to Miami this past weekend and seems to be strongly considering the Canes now. It's unclear if the two situations are related but, either way, Nauta is now on the recruiting board and it appears McKitty plans to go elsewhere.
