Canes offer in-state cornerback

The Hurricanes became the second school to give a scholarship to this talented cornerback prospect from South Florida. Read on to learn about him as a prospect.

"Blessed to receive my 2nd offer from Miami," Akeem Dent announced recently.

At 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, Dent is a talented cornerback prospect from Pahokee High. He started as a freshman at Royal Palm Beach High last season and put his name on the recruiting map with a strong season that included shutting down many of the area's top upperclassman receivers. He held five-star Trevon Grimes (St Thomas Aquinas) to zero catches in their matchup.

He already has ideal size for a major college cornerback prospect. Add in plus speed and top notch athleticism along with quality ball skills and you can see why he's going to be a major college prospect one day.

FAU was his first scholarship offer and then the Canes became the second school to offer when they did so last week. The Canes got a close look at Dent when he showed up at one of their recent camps and put on a show in front of all the coaches. Several other schools will likely follow soon.

Dent, who is a top performer in track, has only been playing the cornerback position for one year now so his best days are likely way ahead of him.
