Local Safety Lands Miami Offer

The Hurricanes extended an offer to a talented local safety recently. Read on to learn about him.

"Excited to say I received an offer from the University of Miami," Cameron Jonas announced a few days ago.

At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Jonas is a talented 2018 safety prospect at Dwyer High in Palm Beach County.

Jonas put his name on the recruiting map with a strong sophomore season. He finished the year with just 18 tackles and one interception but he showed off excellent athletic ability and very good range. He has the ability to cover lots of ground, he's long, and he has the ability to play cornerback or safety at the college level.

Schools like Syracuse, Kentucky, NC State, and Wisconsin had offered him earlier this year. Miami's coaches noticed him during the spring evaluation period and invited him to one of their recent camps where he was very impressive. The UM coaches liked him enough to make him a scholarship offer shortly afterwards.

While it's still early since he's only a rising junior, the Miami offer should stand out since it's the first major in-state offer for Jonas. He's expected to attend a couple home games in the fall and there seems to be serious interest on both sides.

Miami has six commitments in its 2018 class and four of them are defensive backs -- but they all project as cornerbacks.
