Premier DL Wants to Visit UM

At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, one of the nation's most heavily recruited defensive linemen has an impressive list of scholarships. Among them is Miami. "They're a great team," he said of the Canes. "I could definitely fit in there." He talks all about recruiting and the Hurricanes in this interview.

The Hurricanes have landed two defensive linemen from the state of New Jersey over the last few years. First it was Jamaal Green, then it was Thomas Carroll. Could Teaneck's Tamba Hali be next?

Hali checked in at Penn State's camp at 6-3 and 245 and ran a 4.80 over 40 yards. Inside the classroom, he's carrying a 2.8 GPA and is taking the test next month. Hali has 13 tackles and four sacks through two games this season.

Which schools have called this month: Penn State, Syracuse, Miami, Michigan State, Michigan, Florida, Southern Cal - those were most of them.

Which schools have sent you scholarship offers in writing: I have 51 offers right now. Most of them are in writing now.

If signing day were tomorrow, what's it looking like: My top three are Penn State, Syracuse, and Miami. I will also visit USC and probably also Tennessee.

Have you scheduled any official visits yet: Yeah, I go to USC on the 29th of this month. I'll do the rest later in the season or afterwards. My coach and I will sit down and decide on dates. The schools I mentioned are the ones I want to visit. Maryland also wants me to visit. Notre Dame wants me to. Nebraska and Florida have started calling.

Talk about Miami: I watched them against Penn State because I like both teams. Miami has great team speed. They were faster and stronger than Penn State and it showed. I dont think Penn State was that bad, I just think Miami was that good. They're a great team. I definitely want to take a visit down there. I could definitely fit in there.

Personally, it sounds to me like Hali might be leaning slightly to Penn State, but our impressive win in their backyard had to be a huge lift for us. Remember, Penn State was our toughest competition for Carroll, and not many expected us to land him at this time last year. If we continue recruiting him actively, I like our chances.
