Analysis: Canes Lose WR Commit

The Hurricanes lost one of their three wide receiver commitments on Wednesday. Read on for a full analysis of it and what it means for the Canes going forward.

Rodney Scott committed to the Miami Hurricanes earlier this year and that's no longer the case. Here is what he announced earlier this afternoon:

"I want to thank Coach Dugans and the rest of the University of Miami coaching staff for supporting me through it all but now I'm de-committing. I want to have my options open."

At 6-feet and 175 pounds, Scott is a 3-star wide receiver prospect from Miami Southridge High. He attended the Paradise Camp a few weeks ago and that might be when the UM coaches decided to begin going in a different direction. His other schools are from schools like Kentucky, Louisville, NC State, West Virginia, and Rutgers. It's not like other major programs are banging his door down so it's easy to believe this was a mutual decision.

The Canes now have two wide receiver commitments in the 2017 class -- Kevaughn Dingle and Evidence Njoku, who could grow into a tight end like his brother did early in his career here.

Players like Devonta Smith, Jeremiah Holloman, and Jerry Jeudy are some of Miami's key targets remaining in the 2017 class at the wide receiver position.
