LB Hoping to Catch UM's Eye

When Miami (Fla.) Edison standout linebacker Brouce Mompremier attended various summer camps this year, he couldn't help but notice a disturbing trend.

"It seemed like all the linebackers that the colleges like were 220, 230, 240 (pounds)," Mompremier said. "I see guys adding all this weight and stuff. I played last year at about 195 and now I'm around 202 or 203. I just have to do other stuff to make up for it."

That he certainly does. After registering over 120 tackles last season, Mompremier was ready for any challenge.

"I saw a lot of guys at the camps I went to (NIKE, UM, Florida, LSU, etc) and I think I'm right up there," he said. "People see what I do on the field. It's all about hustle. You can be big and fast but if you don't hustle and make plays, it ain't working."

At 5-foot-11, Mompremier is still waiting on certain scholarship offers.

"I got some that I wanted," he said. "There are some others that I'm still waiting for."

One of those he's waiting on is Miami.

"I don't think they've offered that many," he said. "They said they'll be watching me this year. I guess I just have to prove to them that I can play with them at my size."

Mompremier, a full academic qualifier, said he has a few schools on his mind right now.

"There's UM and also LSU, N.C. State, Florida State, Ohio State, and Maryland," he said with offers from three of his favorites (LSU, NC State, and Ohio State). "I haven't figured it all out yet but I just wanna help my team win."

In the meantime, Mompremier has a date circled on his calendar.

"September 4," he said. "It's a Thursday night, our season opener against Killian. UM, a lot of people will be watching because of Bobby [Washington] and I know [JR Bryant] is committed to UM. We're just gonna have to show him. I can't wait."
