Diamante Howard announced his commitment to the University of Miami via his Twitter account on Thursday night. He's a 2019 linebacker prospect at Miami Southridge High.
At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Howard just started his sophomore season so he still has three full years to continue growing and developing. He played varsity football as a freshman on a loaded Southridge team and then turned in a strong offseason that caught the attention of several major college programs.
Tennessee, South Florida, and Temple all liked him enough during the spring evaluation period to give him scholarship offers. He caught the attention of Miami's coaches in the spring and they invited him to Paradise Camp in July. He attended the camp and was impressive enough to get offered by Miami a few weeks later. It didn't take long before he decided to make his pledge to the Canes.
There are still a few years left before he signs so there's a lot of time for other programs to continue recruiting him. He is talented enough to get recruited nationally over the next few years but it's encouraging for Miami fans to know that one of the premier 2019 prospects in South Florida is already committed.
