Tuesday Q&A with Marquez Williams

Read on to see everything starting fullback Marquez Williams was saying following practice on Tuesday.

Redshirt Senior FB Marquez Williams

On scoring the first receiving touchdown of the game…

“It was amazing. It all happened so fast, almost as if it was a movie. I told everybody that for some reason when I came out from the smoke and on to the field I didn’t feel any nerves. So, I was just able to catch the ball and get into the end zone. It was exciting.”

On if he ever dreamt or imagined for the touchdown to happen on Kaaya’s first pass of the season…

“No not at all. Especially when I went into the game and got the call, I started to run the route and I just knew Brad wasn’t going to throw it to me. There was just no way, but then he threw it to me I knew how close I was and that I just had to score. Then when the crowd erupted, it was crazy.”

On when the ball was in the air…

“Catch it. If I don’t catch it, I don’t score so the first thing was catching it and then securing the ball. Because Coach Brown always talks about ball security first, so catching the ball and then securing it were my first thoughts.”

On the team being possibly being ranked…

“I guess it’s a good thing, it’s always good to be ranked. But my main focus is going to be is to win this next game, because to me a ranking doesn’t really mean anything if you don’t go out and play.”

On being a fullback in today’s game…

“Yeah, it seems like it’s a dying position but it has to be something you love. You also have to love blocking, love hitting and most definitely love seeing your running backs run up and down the field and score touchdowns. That’s the enjoyment out of it. Obviously with catching the touchdown, it was nice to get in the end zone as well as do it Saturday, but I know what my primary job is. Which is to block and to move people out of the way.”
