Tallahassee Standout Likes UM

At 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Tallahassee (Godby) offensive tackle Brian Johnson is one of the state's top offensive line prospects. "I will definitely visit Miami," he said. Johnson talks about Art Kehoe, leaving Tallahassee, and where Miami fits in on his current list of favorites in this interview.

At 6-4 and 295, Johnson was named the best offensive lineman at the LSU NIKE Camp back in May. He ripped off a 5.10/40 and turned in a 32-inch vert. Those are very impressive for a kid who now stands 6-5 and close to 300 pounds. Johnson went to Down & Dirty, a linemen-only camp in Lakeland, in July and was named the top offensive lineman at the camp by UM offensive line coach Art Kehoe. Inside the classroom, he carries a 2.45 core and an 830 SAT score.

Which schools have called you so far this month: Miami, Soiuthern Cal, Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, South Florida, and Central Florida.

Which schools have sent you scholarship offers: Pretty much all of them except for Miami and Florida. They've talked about it, but haven't sent anything yet.

If signing day were tomorrow, what's it looking like: Miami's probably my leader followed by Florida, USC, and LSU.

Have you scheduled any official visits: Yes, I will visit USC on December 7. I haven't set the dates yet, but I will definitely visit Miami and LSU too.

Talk about Miami: Well, they weren't recruiting me real hard in the spring, but then Art Kehoe saw me at Down & Dirty and he said he really liked me and then they started sending me stuff. Now they're calling and he's basically giving me advise on my senior season. Miami's looking really good right now, they're getting the job done. They're definitely one of my leaders right now.

What about Florida State: I'm not really interested in them and they don't seem real interested in me.

Personally, I like Johnson a lot. He's a great athlete for a kid this size and all the natural tools are there. With the right coaching over the next few years, Johnson could develop into a very good college right tackle. I think if we offer, the Canes are definitely the front-runners. We'll have to wait and see whether that happens or not, so stay tuned.
