Award Winners - Week One

The Big East Conference named junior cornerback Antrel Rolle (Homestead, FL) co-special teams player of the week. Rolle had a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown. It was Rolle's first career touchdown.

Each week the coaching staff names its team MVP's for their performance in the previous game and past week. This weeks awards are as follows:

Offensive MVP – RB Frank Gore

Gore finished the game with 118 yards on 21 carries (5.6 average). He also caught two passes for 33 yards. Gore was especially impressive on his roll as a blocker during pass plays.

Defensive MVP – DT Vince Wilfork

Wilfork led the defensive line as they put pressure on the quarterback all night long. The defensive line held Louisiana Tech to just 98 yards rushing. Wilfork finished the day with five tackles including three for a loss while recording a sack.

Special Teams MVP – CB Antrel Rolle, WR Devin Hester, TE Buck Ortega

Rolle returned his only punt for a touchdown for 66 yards. Hester returned two kicks for 73 yards including a 54-yard return. Ortega made two good tackles on special teams and was constantly around the ball on coverage.

Scout Team MVP – QB Kyle Wright

Kyle Wright is a freshman from Danville, California and is currently the third-string quarterback. In high school, he was regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
