"My coach came to me and said they want to make sure I'm well rested and don't get tired during games," Williams said. "I guess it's since I haven't played in awhile."
Williams, at 6-1 and 225 pounds, missed most of last season because of an injury. He bounced back nicely last week.
"I ended up with 10 tackles and eight assists," he said. "I was just trying to make plays all night. I almost had an interception but it went right through my hands. I couldn't believe it. But since I changed to No. 51 (from No. 2), I guess I'll be defense only. That's cool because I'm ready."
Williams and his teammates will open the season at home against American Heritage on Friday night. In addition, he's spoken to a few college coaches this week.
"I don't know about the missed calls but I have already talked to coaches at Colorado and Colorado State," he said. "They both talked about me going out for a visit so I'm considering that right now. I haven't talked to UM yet but hopefully that'll happen soon."
In addition to the three programs mentioned, Williams is also considering Florida, Boston College, and Michigan State.
