DBs Talk After Tuesday's Practice

Read on to see what some of Miami's young defensive backs were saying following Tuesday's practice.

Michael Jackson, Jr., Defensive Back

On how the spring is going so far…

“We look pretty good. Today we got beat on a couple deep balls. As a secondary, we just have to be better at playing the ball in the air when it is a 1-on-1 situation.”

On what he needs to prove…
“Just staying consistent, following the technique that the coaches give us each and every day.”

On the cornerback depth…
“We don’t have much depth like most people, but we compete every single day. That is one big thing [defensive coordinator] coach [Manny] Diaz teaches us, and that is what we do.

Malek Young, So., Defensive Back

On junior defensive back Sheldrick Redwine…
“He is great. He knows where to fit in because he played corner. Him being at safety, his stock is going to go way up because he just knows where to be at and how to find the ball. He is doing great back there.”

On being aggressive on defense and carrying over the aggression from last season…
“We are just competing and working to the ball. Effort. Effort is what gets us seen and that is what we are doing right now.”

On what cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph has been preaching to him…
“Eyes. Keep your eyes on your man, don’t look at the quarterback. The quarterback could lose you.”

On getting playing time last season…
“It helped a lot. Just taking in what we learned from last year and bringing it to now. Then being able to be coached on top of that, it gave me more knowledge of the game while studying film.”
