OL/DT Hoping for UM Offer

Miami (Fla.) Edison standout two-way lineman Richard Clebert is off to a strong start to his senior season. Clebert, who doubles as a center and defensive tackle, made eight stops and caused two fumbles in Edison's season opener against Killian. He was a major reason why Bobby Washington was held to just 33 yards.

"Bobby didn't get nothing," Clebert said. "We were shuttin him down. After the first few times we did that, they barely even gave him the ball after that. I just can't believe they beat us."

Killian defeated Edison 10-7. A week later, Clebert and his teammates defeated Southridge 25-20.

"Their quarterback (Phillip Simpson) is really good," he said. "I got two sacks on him but I could have gotten two or three more and he just slipped away. He's strong too."

On the recruiting front, Clebert continues getting plenty of attention. He has close to a dozen scholarship offers.

"Florida, Ohio State, Kansas State, LSU, a bunch of those guys have offered me and have been calling," he said.

While several major college programs are trying to recruit Clebert, one school still stands way out on his list.

"I'm trying to go out to UM," he said. "I've been talking to CJ, their wide receivers coach. He's talking about me playing center. I want to play defensive tackle but I guess it won't really matter. The thing is, I'm really the only one at Edison that wants to go to UM. Brouce (Mompremier) likes LSU and Jacky (Claude) is talkin' about Ohio State."

The talented lineman said the UM coaches wanted to see what he could do on the field this season.

"I just gotta keep showing em," he said. "I wanna play so well that they'll look at me and offer. That's what I'm trying to do right now. I know there are other guys that want to go there that don't have offers right now, but I just have to keep showing 'em what I got."
