LB Plans to Visit UM

Hartwell (Ga.) Hart County standout linebacker Jae Thaxton worked very hard this past summer in preparation for his senior season. He was glad to finally get started again two weeks ago.

"Man, I was ready," Thaxton said. "I showed it too. We won and I had 21 tackles in my first game. Then I came back out the second game and had 15 last week. I'm just trying to make plays out there."

At 6-2 and 220 pounds, Thaxton has plenty of big play ability from his linebacker spot. With 4.63 speed, he's been chasing down ball carriers for three years.

"I hear about some guys running a 4.4," he said. "That must be nice. I'm trying to get there someday or at least close."

Thaxton, who also competes in varsity basketball and track (hurdles and discus), is a full academic qualifier and is a major college prospect as well.

"A lot of colleges have been calling me this month," he said. "I am keeping my options open, not really narrowing it down or anything yet. Florida, Georgia, Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, a lot of schools have called."

The talented linebacker has already taken an unofficial visit this season and has one official trip planned.

"I went to the Georgia game," he said. "It was fun, a lot of people were there. They're on my list. My only for sure visit is Notre Dame and that's sometime in January. I'm not sure on the rest right now."

One of the other programs that will likely get a visit is Miami.

"I've been talking to Coach Hargreaves," he said. "He's real cool. He's my recruiting coach and he also coaches the linebackers. He was telling me that I would have a chance to come in and play if I worked hard enough. He said they're going to be a little thin next year and the guys that want to work (hard) will play early. I'm probably going to use one of my visits to Miami."

According to Thaxton, all of the schools listed, including the Hurricanes, have offered a scholarship.
