"They have a great program, the best in the country right now," Guthrie said. "They're giving me a chance to be a part of that so why not? They started recruiting me real early in the year and they call a lot and just keep up with everything."
Guthrie, 6-3 and 250 pounds, has offers from several other major programs in addition to Miami.
"Boston College, Rutgers, and Auburn have all offered me too," he said. "Florida has started calling and they might be interested too."
Although Guthrie has committed to the Hurricanes, he may be taking some other trips.
"I know about Miami because I've been there and I'll probably also visit BC and Florida too," he said.
Guthrie has become UM's sixth commitment and the third from Killian High -- joining Bobby Washington and J.R. Bryant.
"Bobby and J.R. have been asking me when I'm going to commit," he said. "Having those guys there will help."
