UM Closing in on Commitment

Wharton, Texas standout Kellen Heard has been a busy man so far this season. He plays several positions all over the field.

"We're 2-2 but we're straight," Heard said. "We just gotta keep playing hard. I've been playing O-Tackle, fullback, tight end, and defensive tackle. I'm all over the field making plays."

Heard, who says he's 6-7 and 355 pounds, said he enjoys playing on both sides of the ball.

"On offense, I like helping the team score," he said. "I love hitting people at fullback. On defense, I'm out there trying to tear people up."

Heard said he's not sure what position he'll play in college.

"Some of the coaches have talked about offensive line and some have talked about defensive line," he said. "It doesn't really matter but I'd like to get a chance on defense first."

Heard recently took his second official visit of the year. He talked about that experience.

"I went to A&M for the weekend," he said. "It was tight. The coaches were nice and I chilled with some of the players. A&M's a great program and I've thought about going there in the past. They asked me if I was going to commit and I told them they'll know on October 9th."

A week earlier, Heard made an official visit to Baylor.

"That was tight too but I'm only going to need one more visit and that's Miami," he said. "I'll get there on the 4th (of October). I'll check and see what's up with Miami and then come home and make a decision."

Heard said the Canes hold a slight edge over the Aggies right now.

"I'd put Miami first," he said. "They know how to win and put players into the league. I talked to their head coach last week and we talked about me coming down for my visit. I thought about making a commitment to Miami before but I want to wait to see what my visit's like."

Heard plans on making his commitment on October 9.
